Hugendubel and Bortenlänger Appointed to Head up ifo Administrative Council and Board of Trustees

At its meeting on June 29, 2023, the ifo Institute Board of Trustees selected Nina Hugendubel to be the new Chair of both the Administrative Council and the Board of Trustees. She is Managing Director of the book retailer H. Hugendubel in Munich. The incoming Deputy Chair is Christine Bortenlänger, Chief Executive of Deutsches Aktieninstitut. “We are delighted to have recruited two such outstanding figures in German business, who are also experienced managers, to fill these positions,” says Clemens Fuest, President of the ifo Institute. “Both have strong ties to the ifo Institute and its organizational bodies going back many years.”

“I look forward to being able to lend even more support to ifo Institute activities in my new position,” Hugendubel says. Bortenlänger adds: “The ifo Institute plays a vital role in society, as it provides policymakers and the public with reliable facts on which to base decisions.”

Hugendubel succeeds Peter-Alexander Wacker, who served as Chair of both ifo bodies from 2011 until June 2023 and is leaving this position at his own request. Wacker is Chair of the Supervisory Board of Wacker Chemie AG. “We thank Peter-Alexander Wacker for his outstanding commitment during his time in office. A key voice in shaping ifo’s future, he always campaigned to preserve the Institute’s independence and contributed valuable ideas for its development,” Fuest says.

Bortenlänger is taking over from Hugendubel as Deputy Chair of the ifo Institute Administrative Council and the Board of Trustees.

The term for the newly appointed Chair and Deputy Chair, as well as for new members of both bodies, begins on July 1 and will last for three years.

The Administrative Council advises the Executive Board of the ifo Institute and performs certain supervisory functions. The Board of Trustees is made up of leaders from academia, business, unions, and public administration. It assists the Executive Board in carrying out its tasks.
