In the fourth quarter of 2024, economic output grew only in five of the sixteen German federal states compared to the previous quarter. The three large federal states in the north in particular are currently doing better than the rest of the country.

Capacity utilization in civil engineering in Germany rose in March to 72.6%, up from 70.1% in February. That is only around 3.5 percentage points below the average for the past ten years of 76.1%.

In classrooms with two equal-sized groups of pupils with and without a migration background social cohesion suffers. “Whether cultural diversity in the classroom strengthens social cohesion depends crucially on the form of diversity,” says ifo researcher Helmut Rainer.

The German economy will continue to tread water in 2025. In their spring report, the leading economic research institutes forecast an increase in gross domestic product of just 0.1 per cent for the current year.

Germany is the second largest immigration country in the OECD area. Immigrants come with different expectations, prerequisites, needs and talents. Increasingly, diversity, especially when it comes to refugees, is viewed controversially in society.
