Germany has so far coped quite well with the Covid-19 crisis. Many are now calling for more government action, more government spending, and more intervention. Ludger Schuknecht, on the other hand, argues for a market-friendly regulatory policy with better regulation and a more efficient tax system to strengthen the framework for investment. Internationally, he claims, it is not protection and the renationalization of production that is called for, but open markets and market mechanisms in climate protection.
