Retailing: assessment of current business remain favorable

The business climate indicator for retailing rose in February, moving out of negative territory. The assessments of the current situation, which are still well above the long-term average, were again corrected slightly upwards. The skepticism that had recently increased with regard to the six-month outlook has also diminished. Retailers reported rising sales, and inventories have been built up somewhat. Prices were raised more frequently and further price increases are planned, but less frequently than in previous months. Ordering activity remains slightly restrictive, and employment in the retail sector has shown little growth for almost a year.
