Retailing: Scepticism over Business Outlook Grows

The business climate indicator for retailing fell slightly in December. Although sales exceeded results for the same month last year, retailers were somewhat less satisfied with the current business situation. The companies surveyed were somewhat more sceptical than in last month with regard to further business developments. In view of high inventory pressure, retailers remained cautious with regard to order volumes. No changes were planned in terms of personnel plans. Prices are likely to continue to rise. Consumer prices were 2.3% higher in November than a year ago.
