ifo Business Surveys for July 2018 at a Glance: The German Economy Continues to Expand at a Slower Pace

The ifo Business Climate for Germany deteriorated marginally in July. Although companies were slightly more satisfied with their current business situation, they scaled back their business expectations. The German economy continued to expand at a slower pace. German companies remain equally as willing to recruit additional staff as last month. At present there are no signs of the long-lasting upturn in the German employment market cooling down. Sentiment among German exporters brightened somewhat. Export expectations in manufacturing rose in July after seven successive decreases. The world economic environment nevertheless remains harsh for German exporters.
