An overview of housing market policy in European countries

In Germany, there is currently a lively debate on housing market policy with regard to various state interventions. To enrich this discussion, it may be helpful to take a closer look at the implementation of support measures in other countries. In this article the range of support policies in European economies is presented. The governments of other countries mainly focus on increasing the energy efficiency of residential buildings and providing housing for low-income households. This article also uses three examples to explain the concrete design of different measures in Italy, France and Great Britain. It shows that political interventions in the housing market have effects that were not intended by governments.
