Retailing: Excellent Business Situation

The business climate indicator for retailing rose markedly in June, reaching its highest level since July 1991. The upturn in demand was reflected in outstanding assessments of the current business situation, which reached their highest level since December 2010. Turnover significantly exceeded the levels seen in the previous year. In view of lower pressure from high inventories, retailers plan to slightly upscale their ordering activity. They also expressed greater confidence in their six-month business outlook. Sales prices are expected to increase, although to a lesser extent than in previous months.
