Ifo Migration Monitor: Migration of Foreign Students to Germany – an Important Factor for Attracting Skilled Workers

Foreign students who have passed exams qualifying them for higher education abroad and subsequently come to Germany to study are of central importance in analysing migration to Germany. Germany is one of the most popular destination countries for foreign students. Yet, as the OECD and the EU point out in a recent publication, too few foreign students can be attracted to stay in Germany as skilled workers after completing their studies.
