Weak Investment and the Tertiarisation of Germany’s Economic Structure

The decline in gross investment rates is often used to assess the decline in investment activity in Germany. From an economic point of view, however, net fixed capital investment, or fixed capital investment adjusted for depreciation, is a more relevant measure. If net fixed capital investment is considered instead of gross investment, an even poorer picture of development trends in investment in physical capital emerges in Germany.
