The German waste management industry is steadily moving closer towards becoming a circular economy, with the focus increasingly shifting towards the recycling of waste and the provision of secondary raw materials. Although this trend suffered a setback in the 2009 recession, recycling is expected to continue to gain importance in the years ahead. This article presents recent developments in the various segments of this branch.
