Climate notes: Treasure Hunt in the Ocean – Does the Future of Mining Lie on the Ocean Bed?

In view of rising demand for commodities, especially on the part of strong emerging economies, and the correspondingly rising commodity prices, the deep sea is increasingly being seen as an enormous and, to date, largely untapped source of natural resource reserves. This article offers an overview of deposit sites, exploration for and planned development of deep sea resources and the risks of a depletion of deep sea resources.
