The worldwide automotive industry has experienced a period of remarkable growth over the past decade. Impulses came from the so-called BRIC countries, where growth looks set to continue in the near future. At the same time the automotive industry will also be able to build on a second growth phase. This second phase is based on 15 emerging countries that have a sufficiently large population on the one hand, and GDP growth on the other. In a scoring model Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, University of Duisburg-Essen, Kai Pietron, D&S CAR Analysen GmbH, Duisburg, and Alexander Stephan, University of Duisburg-Essen, analyse the “Next 15”,or the countries that will drive the second wave of growth. They come to the conclusion that conditions for growth in the automotive industry through 2020 are good. The global automotive market is still a long way from saturation. Alongside the BRIC states, a second avenue of growth should emerge in the automotive industry in the future, which will mainly be shaped by 15 countries that are mainly in Asia. This means that the automotive industry looks set to enjoy fast-paced growth in the near future.
