In the context of the energy-policy turnaround in Germany and the transformation of the entire energy system to renewable sources of energy, special importance is often assigned to infrastructure; conversely, the absence of adequate infrastructure is often used as a reason for delaying the system transformation. Christian von Hirschhausen, Technical University of Berlin, shows that infrastructure is necessary for a successful system transformation. However, since this is not a major constraint in Germany, this point should not be unnecessarily exaggerated in the energy and social policy discussion.
