Aid for Greece: An assessment of the euro-country emergency plan

Jan Schnellenbach, University of Heidelberg, discuss the constructional flaws of the bailouts as well as their effects on the further institutional development of the European Union: "The development could go in direction of a formal institutionalisation of the federal principle in EU budgetary policies, for example an enlarged supranational fiscal equalisation". Markus C. Kerber, Technical University of Berlin, opposes a monetary union with fiscal equalisation. Thomas Apolte, University of Münster, does not regard the assistance policies of the EU as the only alternative. In his opinion debt rescheduling of one EU country will not automatically pull down other countries in the EU.
