Keynesian demand weakness - the main problem for German industry at the moment

The present recession in manufacturing in Germany is mainly the result of a global demand weakness and not an indication of lacking competitiveness. This is confirmed by the May Ifo Business Survey in manufacturing. Whereas the survey participants continue to give higher marks to their competitiveness than the EU average, the lack of orders has become the main problem in recent months.
