In most highly developed countries the life expectancy increased strongly in the last century. In 2004 Eckart Bomsdorf, University of Cologne, submitted model computations on the future development of life expectancy in Germany. In this contribution written by Bomsdorf together with Bernhard Babel, University of Cologne, these calculations are expanded and model computations presented for the future development of life expectancy in the G7 countries. The results show a further rise of life expectancy in the examined countries; in addition the recent trends indicate a decline in the differences in life expectancy between women and men.
