Should financial control be reformed and intensified? In the opinion of the president of the German Savings Bank Association, DSGV, Heinrich Haasis, financial supervision stood the test this summer, and efforts towards further convergence and co-operation in the European realm should be continued. In parallel, the role of the state in the financing of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority, BaFin, should be tackled anew and rethought. Haasis believes that the federal government should bear 10% of BaFin's costs "since such an important task as financial supervision should not be completely financed by the supervised enterprises themselves".
