The German economy is enigmatic: although Germany is the world's export (vice) champion, at the same time it suffers from on-going economic and employment weakness. Is the export boom an expression of unchanged international competitiveness and is the growth and employment weakness only a business-cycle problem resulting from weak domestic demand? Or is the juxtaposition of economic crisis and export boom a locational problem for Germany in general and a wage problem in particular?
