This year the European civil engineering sector will expand by 3.3 percent. This positive development will continue in the following years: In 2007 and 2008 growth of approximately three percent is expected for each year. This is the result of forecasting by the Euroconstruct institutes, of which the Ifo Institute is the German partner. High growth rates will be achieved particularly by the new EU member states in Central and Eastern Europe. The strong civil engineering demand in these countries comes particularly from extensive investments in the infrastructure - particularly road construction and water supply/treatment.
