According to the European Labour Survey the normal working week in Germany in 2002 was 35.2 hours per employee. If one considers the overtime that was performed in the first job and the hours that were worked in a second job, an average weekly working time of 36.5 hours is the result. Thus Germany occupies a place in the lower field of European countries. With the second component of the annual working time, the number of weeks worked per annum, Germany stands at 40.6 weeks. According to this calculation the annual working time per dependent employee was 1,480 hours in 2002. Thus German working hours were higher than in Belgium, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, but lower than in the Central and Eastern European countries and Greece.
