Upward trend

In western German retailing the business situation again improved strongly; in the food and beverage sector the positive judgements predominated slightly for the first time in many months. Sales increased over the previous year, but the high inventory pressure in the non-food sector increased. Since the enterprises remain sceptical with regard to future business prospects, they continue to cut back their order plans.
