Reduction of social cushioning for the unemployed: the plans of the Federal Government in a European Context

In his declaration of 14 March 2003, Chancellor Schröder announced a reform of unemployment benefits and an elimination of the unemployment aid programme. With a reduction of the months that benefits are paid, Germany would move into mid-field in a European comparison.
