On 23 October 2003 the Ifo Institute will hold its third Industry Colloquium, in co-operation with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria. The task of the conference is to inform an expert audience of economic and industry developments in Germany, the EU and other industrialised countries. The colloquium is based on the long tradition of the Ifo conferences on economic and business developments (ifo Konjunkturgespräche). The industry analyses and forecasts if the Ifo Institute are based to a large extent on the results of the Joint Economic Forecast of the six major economic research institutes that will be presented on October 21 in Berlin. For the individual analyses of manufacturing (automotive industry, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and chemical industry), construction (buildings and civil engineering), distribution (retailing and wholesaling) and the services (software, insurance), data are taken from the official statistic as well as from the Ifo Institute's own business surveys in order to have a well-grounded information and data base. Participating In this dialogue of policy-makers and business leaders will be Dr. Otto Wiesheu, Bavarian State Minister of Economics, Transport and Technology, and the Federal Minister of Economics and Labour, Dr. Wolfgang Clement.
