New EU economic indicator and the Ifo Business Climate indicator

In October the EU Commission presented a new version of ESIN, the Economic Sentiment Indicator, which is based on the EU-wide results of business and consumer surveys, and which has incorporated many suggestions made by the Ifo Institute. The new ESIN shows relatively exactly the growth trend of GDP in the Euro Zone, albeit more as a coincident than as a leading indicator. As an leading indicator, the Ifo Business Climate displays several advantages, also vis-à-vis the new ESIN.
