Industrie (West): Geschäftserwartungen weiter auf Talfahrt

In west German manufacturing the business climate cooled off (see Figure). Although the firms gave a slightly more positive assessment of their business situation than in December, scepticism dominated the business expectations for the first time since May 1999, despite apparently improved export opportunities. Consumer goods producers, however, are again optimistic.
