Whereas the business situation in west German wholesaling improved dramatically, it continued to receive unfavourable assessments in east Germany despite an upward trend. In contrast to west Germany, east German wholesalers continue to regard their business outlook with pessimism. Given the high level of inventories, order plans signal further restraint. This is also true for west Germany.
