Biological processes are also influenced by economic conditions. Social policy, medical care, living standards and nutrition have an effect of health, body size and on human welfare in general. Prof. John Komlos, Institute for Economics at the University of Munich, and Peter Kriwy, Institute for Sociology of the University of Munich, have examined the data of the Federal Health Survey with regard to average body size in the population in Germany before and after unification.
