Press release -

German Manufacturing Sees Threat to Its Competitiveness

Almost all sectors in manufacturing reported that their competitiveness deteriorated in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the fourth quarter of 2023. The only exceptions here were the pharmaceutical industry and manufacturers of wood products (excluding furniture). With regard to markets outside the EU, all sectors except the beverage industry reported a worse competitive position than in the previous quarter.

More and more German companies are also coming under pressure at home. Until the end of 2022, there was almost always a tendency for the majority of companies to perform well on the domestic market, but this changed a year ago.
