Companies that participate in ifo Institute surveys enjoy a number of benefits All participants, for example, receive an exclusive and detailed report on the survey results for their branch.

Economic forecasts estimate how the economy will develop in the future. They focus on speed changes and turning points in key macroeconomic variables. This information helps companies and private households to make decisions on their investment and spending plans. The government also uses economic forecasts to adjust its policy instruments.

Forecast Series

The Eurozone Economic Outlook was a joint project between the German ifo Institute, the Italian Istat Institute and the KOF Swiss Economic Institute. It produced a joint forecast for real gross domestic product, consumption of private households, gross fixed capital formation (investment), industrial production and the inflation rate in the euro zone for the current and the two following quarters. The publication was discontinued in spring 2021.

With its business surveys the ifo Institute collects data that are of great interest for empirical economic research both in Germany and abroad. Some long time-series are provided in Excel format for facilitating further processing by the user.

Survey Series

From 1983 to 2019, the World Economic Survey (WES) asked more than 1,000 economic experts worldwide every quarter to provide a picture of the current economic situation and indications of future developments in more than 100 important industrial, emerging and developing countries.

Companies and organisations are subject to the far-reaching antitrust laws. They themselves have to assess whether their conduct complies with antitrust laws. The ifo Institute offers its members, the members of its advisory bodies and its staff a legally sound basis for exchanging opinions and experience that complies with antitrust law. Ifo Institute meetings do not deal with antitrust issues, nor do they create an opportunity for or promote agreements or decisions that do not comply with antitrust law. The ifo Institute will not suffer any forms of conduct that do not comply with antitrust law.

The ifo Institute has set itself the goal of conducting first-class research in order to contribute substantially to the economic debate in the national and international context and thus decisively advance knowledge of economic issues.

Our goal is to help shape the economic debate. That is why we are looking for female and male economists who want to achieve research excellence. We will help you reach your goals by providing excellent research conditions plus graduate schools and collaborations with Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, TU Dresden, and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. In addition, we offer a mentoring program for female economists, and our CESifo network, which gives you access to international researchers from all over the world. You can also further your career outside of research – because we systematically support the professional development of our staff through workshops, seminars, and further training.

Our doctoral program is integrated in the Graduate Program at the Munich Graduate School of Economics (MGSE) and is aimed at graduates with an excellent university degree. Our doctoral students complete their dissertation generally with above-average success. After their doctorate, the doors are open to them for an academic career at the university or a career in other institutions, in companies or in political consulting.

The ifo Institute keeps in touch with its former doctoral students and scientists. ifo alumni pursue a wide variety of careers: Many stay in research, others are attracted to ministries, international organisations or companies.

Research at the ifo Institute is organized in eight Centers, the Research Group Taxation and Fiscal Policy and the ifo Dresden Branch. All units have their own positioning, follow their characteristic program and offer specific services. At the same time, they are closely linked and all contribute to the shared research theme of the ifo Institute.
